It is with a grateful heart that I think...

From the July 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a grateful heart that I think of Mrs. Eddy, who has given to mankind the revelation of the truth which Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, promised us. Christian Science is indeed the truth which makes us free!

Before I became acquainted with Christian Science, I had to undergo a gallbladder operation, at which time it was found that I was suffering from a so-called incurable liver condition. This condition greatly impaired my vision, which resulted in my wearing glasses. I was discharged from the hospital as incurable and in need of nursing care.

At that time I read a great deal in the Bible and often said in prayer: "Dear God, You must have something special planned for me. Otherwise, You would simply let me die." One day I read in Exodus 15:26), "If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee." I pondered this statement from the Bible for a long time and prayed God to become my Physician, because men were no longer able to help me.
