Many years ago a doctor told me that I would have to endure asthma and bronchitis. He said that I was incurable and that further visits to him would be useless. All previous doctors I had consulted had also failed to free me.
I could not believe that God intended us to suffer and thought that somehow He would deliver me from my ailments. I read many passages from the Bible, but although I received much encouragement from them, my health remained the same. Turning to Christian Science, I obtained a copy of the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, but failed to get help from it because (as I now understand) I was unwilling to let go of accepted beliefs concerning reality and because I misunderstood Mrs. Eddy's place as revelator and thought she was usurping the Master's authority.
For several years I went on continuing to lose weeks and months of employment yearly through ill health, finally being registered as a disabled person, my papers being marked "not likely to improve."
