Church in Action

A month in Indonesia

From the August 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Last fall, Paul Stark Seeley, member of the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church, and Mrs. Seeley devoted an entire month of their Asian lecture tour to Indonesia.

The morning after his arrival, Mr. Seeley held a conference with six representatives of the Jakarta press. Answering their questions gave him an excellent opportunity to place before the Indonesian public facts about the Christian Science movement, Mrs. Eddy, and the teachings of Christian Science. The conference was held in the spacious Sunday School room on the grounds of Jakarta's sturdily growing First Church of Christ, Scientist.

Mr. Seeley's first of two lectures in Jakarta dealt with God's healing law—where it is and how it works. It attracted the largest number ever to attend a Christian Science lecture in that country. Three hundred people came for the Indonesian translation well presented by a local Christian Scientist. The English version had an audience of slightly less. Eight hundred and fifty pieces of Christian Science literature were given out afterward. An important military figure who heard the lecture said, "I never before realized that basic law is ever in action."
