Proving Our Manhood

From the August 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Recently in a news item describing the misconduct and vandalism of a group of so-called juvenile delinquents, a law officer was quoted as saying that such misdemeanors are often caused by boys who are trying to prove their manhood.

If every young person attempted to prove his manhood in the way that Christian Science teaches—spiritually, instead of humanly—there would be no juvenile delinquency. Christian Science, the present-day reinstatement of Christ Jesus' teachings, sets forth absolute and scientifically provable truths as to what constitutes one's real selfhood, one's spiritual manhood. It shows how the individual can exemplify these truths in daily experience and understand and live purely, morally, and lovingly. Whether the individual is a teen-ager, an adult, or a senior citizen makes no difference, for these are human categories that cannot limit the true expression of man's spiritual, complete being as the offspring of his heavenly Father.

The Bible plainly sets forth that man is the image and likeness of God. Mrs. Eddy, faithfully recording God's revelation to her spiritually prepared thought, further elucidates man's real being as the manifestation of God's being. God's creation is never anything but good, and this goodness characterizes true manhood. Spiritual maturity and dominion can be understood and expressed just as completely by a young person as by an adult, for age has nothing to do with man's reflection of God.
