Waiting Patiently

From the August 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the process of learning the facts of divine Science and applying them to our experience, we go through basic changes in our thinking and living. Even though these changes are not always easy, we should not chafe at this necessity. And even though one may be eager for advancement, it is not wise to try to push this transformation through human will. Mrs. Eddy says: "Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept. Patience must 'have her perfect work.'" Science and Health, p. 454;

When we realize that our thinking determines our experience, we see how impossible it is to change experience without a prior change in our thinking. If one ignores this sequence, he is constantly faced with frustration; and he may be baffled by it. Here humility is needed. The patient willingness to change wherever God points out the way will lay the foundation for progress. And when this foundation is laid, the fruition will come about in natural order.

Christian Science teaches that individual man is the image and likeness of God, Spirit, Soul. He reflects the qualities of God and manifests the harmony that is natural in God's government. This real man is the true identity of each one of us; and only as we come to understand this truth, conform to the nature of real manhood, and measure up to the responsibilities involved can we benefit from the law of God and feel the care of the Almighty.
