My left hand was partially crushed one day when a heavy car door was slammed shut on it. Mortal mind asked: "Well, what are you going to do now, you who have always turned to your mother or practitioners for your healings? Your mother is no longer here and there is no practitioner on the island." I looked at my hand and was filled with fear. There were several broken bones in my fingers and hand.
At this point I turned humbly to God in prayer and was able to say to myself: "Of course I know what I will do. I will take my stand and work this out in Christian Science. God loves me, and this is my opportunity to prove God's allness."
I was then prompted to call a friend, a student of Christian Science, who came at once to see me. After obtaining an assurance from me that I did not wish to have the bones set by a doctor but preferred to rely entirely on Christian Science, she said: "That's all I want to know. Let's get to work!" She read to me from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. All pain left, and I spent a comfortable night. My friend returned each day for the remainder of the week to read to me until I was able to manage my books. I am most grateful for the spiritual understanding and love expressed by my dear friend.
