"Be ye not troubled"

From the May 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Shortly before his crucifixion, when speaking with his disciples of the overturning that would attend the second coming of the Christ, our Master, Christ Jesus, said, "When ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled."Mark 13:7; The human need for the quiet understanding and assurance that Jesus required of his disciples is felt today on many sides as the spiritual forces at work in the world are bringing the evil elements in human nature to the surface to be destroyed. To meet this need, the appearing of the Christ, Truth, is with us in the revelation of Christian Science.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love. Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brotherhood of man will be established."Science and Health, p. 467; Although clouded by the upsurge of materialism, this prophecy is being worked out in the world today.

It is characteristic of true prophecy that when it is accepted its fulfillment is hastened and begins to come to pass. Prophecy points to facts that inhere in Truth and therefore must inevitably be fulfilled. A spiritual seer, perceiving some outcome of Truth, proclaims it. Others in the fullness of time accept the prophetic vision, expect its realization, and thereby hasten its fulfillment.
