Christians in general believe that life continues after death. They accept that aspect of immortality. Through spiritual interpretation of the Bible, Mrs. Eddy has revealed that because life is eternal, man must have lived before material birth. How could man be God's expression for only threescore years and ten? Eternal Mind must have eternal expression.
Everything to do with material invention and creation has beginning and ending and is fraught with limitations and frustrations. The creation of Spirit, God, however, is without beginning of days or end of life. There is no birth and beginning, nor is there death and ending to what God conceives. If we accept the thought that our life ever began, we immediately subject ourselves to all the limitations and ills of the flesh, for we are thinking of ourselves as limited mortals. That which is immortal never begins; so we see birth as a mortal dream, an illusion. Life is not only without ending but without beginning, for it is as eternal as its forever creator.
Let us consider this statement in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, and the challenging questions the author, Mrs. Eddy, asks regarding it: "If man did not exist before the material organization began, he could not exist after the body is disintegrated. If we live after death and are immortal, we must have lived before birth, for if Life ever had any beginning, it must also have an ending, even according to the calculations of natural science. Do you believe this? No! Do you understand it? No! This is why you doubt the statement and do not demonstrate the facts it involves."Science and Health, p. 429;
