For many years the words "Christian"...

From the May 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For many years the words "Christian" and "Science" have been synonymous with joy and light in my understanding, and particularly when the truths of Christian Science have been proved, as in the following healings.

Just after World War II, when ration coupons were still needed to purchase clothes in England, my eldest son came home and stated that he had left his brand-new school overcoat on the train. Visitors in my home were prompt and definite in saying, "That's the last you'll see of that; everyone is so short of coupons."

I immediately, though silently, denied this and found my consciousness singing, "God could not make imperfect man," from Hymn No. 51 in the Christian Science Hymnal. I then took the necessary steps of informing the police and railway authorities. For three days every discouraging thought or word was met with the truths of this hymn, both studied and sung. On the third day the railway authorities rang up to say that a woman had handed in the coat to the lost property office. I joyfully sent my son to collect it.
