National Elections: A Higher Concept

From the September 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In thinking about national elections, students of Christian Science may ask themselves what they can do spiritually to further the development of enlightened government and how they can reverse the tide of negative thinking that frequently surrounds what should be a rich human experience.

Clearly, the role of citizen and voter needs to be reexamined in the light of a higher, more spiritual concept, which Christian Science presents. This means reexamining man's relationship to God and the meaning of this relationship in regard to daily human activity.

In the Glossary of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy defines God as "The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." Science and Health, p. 587; In the Bible it is written, "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him."Gen. 1:27; God is perfect and man, His image and likeness, is perfect. This perfect man, wholly spiritual, can reflect only the perfection of God.
