The politics of divine Mind, its Science of government, is included in the completeness of spiritual being. Since Mind, God, is Spirit and omnipresent, this one Spirit must be acknowledged as the governing factor in the affairs of men and nations. Christian Science reveals a universe not divided into factions but at one, its harmonious activity of divine ideas going on under the orderly direction of one divine Principle; whereas, humanly speaking, politics is a relative conception, based on the belief of many minds, many interests. Its numerous theories of government often leave one in doubt as to the true course.
In 1787 at Philadelphia the delegates to the Constitutional Convention seemed deadlocked. An elderly statesman, wise Benjamin Franklin, lifted their thought above preconceived human expediency when he said, ". . . we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings." Then he went on to say, "I have lived ... a long time; and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men." Motion for Prayers in the Convention, June 28, 1787;
One who acknowledges the presence and power of God will bring spiritual direction to his thinking in relation to problems of human government. He will endeavor to see beyond the human presentation of issues and persons to the spiritual fact of God's unerring plan and omnipresence. He will strive to live in the consciousness of spiritual being, in which the government of divine Mind supplies order, activity, protection, substance, and fruitful relationships. He will take every opportunity to serve the interests of genuine peace by reflecting that spiritual reality which blesses all.
