Has joy taken flight from your interest in Christian Science? Has stagnation set in after a period of intense delight in its study, and do you find this inertia difficult to resist? Such an experience is entirely avoidable. Christian Science holds within itself the cure for spiritual stagnation. The remedy for it is divine inspiration, and this inspiration, because its source is infinite Mind, or God, can be demonstrated as spontaneous and unlimited. Every quality that emanates from Mind partakes of its infinite nature and is reflected by man, the real man, made in God's likeness. This is the truth of inspiration, and a truth can always be proved. So stagnation has no basis in Science, and it can be destroyed.
No student of Christian Science should feel satisfied with the degree of his inspiration. Until he has awakened fully from the mortal dream of matter and its evils and limitations, he should feel a divine discontent with his spiritual accomplishments. His determination to prove what Science offers —real cause, law, substance, joy—should increase daily instead of diminish. If the student finds his love of the truth lessening, then he should note his apathy quickly and work until his inspiration is restored and he is spiritually refreshed.
If scientific truths become very familiar to one and he makes little effort to attain new unfoldments from Mind, this may bring about mental stagnation and even a falling away from Science. One needs always to be following new paths of understanding, seeking fresh aspects of the truth to apply to his problems, looking for wider spiritual horizons, finding greener pastures to enjoy, new fields to plow.
