Let Not Violence Enter In

From the September 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In today's world, acts of lawlessness, violence, and brutality seem to be common and according to statistics have grown in frequency and intensity during the last few years. Why is this and what can we do to help reverse this world trend?

We are taught in Christian Science that material conditions are the result of thinking and that these conditions can be ameliorated, altered, and healed by changing the mental climate. Then we must conclude that our times need a great cleansing of mental attitudes.

It behooves us, as Christian Scientists, to examine our thought diligently to see if this world tendency has a dwelling place in us. Are we denying and casting out every violent, lawless, or brutal thought that comes to us for acceptance? Or are we, perhaps all unconsciously, accepting the subtle, mesmeric suggestions of intolerance, antagonism, pride, lust, and hatred, thus giving them place in consciousness to breed and bring forth vicious acts?
