Periodicals Meeting

From the September 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"FOR THEY PERCEIVED THAT THIS WORK WAS WROUGHT OF OUR GOD" (Neh. 6:16)

The meeting opened with the singing of Hymn No. 23, with words by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. The chairman, Mrs. Florence C. Southwell, Trustee of The Christian Science Publishing Society, read selections from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy. Silent prayer was followed by the audible repetition of the Lord's Prayer.

A group of youngsters who were learning English were given a vocabulary test. One of the questions was: "Tell the difference between God spelled with a capital 'G' and god spelled with a small 'g.'" The teacher had previously discussed these differences with the class. They had found that the dictionary defined God with a capital "G" as "Supreme Being." This was the answer, more or less, that she was looking for. One child's answer was perceptive indeed. It was, "The god spelled with a small 'g' is the god you think about with your head. God with a large 'G' is the God that you feel with your heart."
