Church in Action

On campus: a spiritual stir

From the September 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was a day of trouble for New York University. A student strike was under way, and there had been demonstrations following the invasion of Cambodia and the Kent State slayings.

Since students had seized the building where the Christian Science organization regularly met, the members gathered in another building nearby. An emergency first-aid station had been set up outside the door. One could sense an urgent need for peace.

The readings for their weekly meeting were on "attraction." They brought out the need to actively love all men for their innate spiritual qualities, thereby encouraging the outward expression of these qualities. The testimonies all showed sincere concern for the human need as well as confidence in the omnipresence of Love. A feeling of peace and unity grew as the meeting progressed, culminating in a good deal of gratitude.
