The world's need and The Mother Church's response

The Christian Science Magazines

From the September 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This is a thrilling age to be alive in.

Ancient human certainties are discredited and denied. Limitations that have bound mankind for millennia are vanishing. So are safeguards. With roar and whisper, whimper and yell, new knowledge is making the impossible casually possible. Both faith and doubt are questioned.

In the arts, and in the news, the humdrum and familiar are invested with strangeness and menace. The unimaginable is imagined; the horrible ceases to horrify. Yet perhaps there has never been so huge an opportunity for the tiny hands of faith.
