Scientific Child Care

From the September 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. . . . And thou shalt teach [these words] diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." Deut. 6:5, 7;

Dedicated students of Christian Science will accept this counsel from Deuteronomy and watch that they do not neglect any aspect of their sacred duty as parents. In addition to seeing that the physical needs of their youngsters are properly supplied, they have something lasting and concrete to give them—the understanding of God and of the real identity and capabilities of His children. Through this understanding parents can sustain their children's well being and progress by spiritual means, and their children can learn to protect and heal themselves spiritually in varying degrees.

Through the practical teachings of Christian Science all may come to love and appreciate God as the complete creator, infinite Father-Mother, and man as the very expression of His being. Accepting this omnipotent Principle as the one and only cause, both parents and children recognize that their living must conform to this law at home, at church, and everywhere.
