Where the Action Really Is

From the September 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Action! It's everywhere! For good or bad, it dominates the human scene. Today jet action shrinks the skies, drawing continents ever closer together. Yet that same action induces fears of war that drive peoples farther apart.

Question: What makes human action good? What makes it bad? Answer: Not mobilization but motivation. That's what the beginning of action really is.

Real action is the effect of God's will. It is good functioning. The malfunctioning called evil results from a belief in a will apart from God. Constructive action sustains, invigorates, and causes good to flourish. Destructive so-called action debilitates, darkens, deadens. Right action is the live fiber of peace, prosperity, and progress. It is Godlike thinking animating human purpose. Only ignorance of God can suggest that good can be paralyzed, thereby giving activity to evil. It is the double-standard belief that both good and evil action are real that gives mental and physical disorders license to act. The one who understands the omniaction of good helps disarm friction and explosive or malevolent action.
