During the thirty years that I have studied Christian Science my life has greatly changed. The blessings of God have multiplied as I have discovered my true identity as a child of God. Many healings have taken place for those around me and for myself, often with the prayer of devoted Christian Science practitioners and, at times, through my own understanding. Some of them are: healing of pulmonary tuberculosis, appendicitis, chronic constipation, liver disease, quinsy, influenza, measles, and burns.
Several years ago I had to learn what this passage from Isaiah means (58:6): "To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke." During many months I had to face a very distressing discordant situation. Criticism, ill will, even hate, seemed to make me their target. My first reaction was indignation, and I tried to justify myself. But the more I defended myself, the worse things seemed to get. In despair I at last turned in complete humility to God. I opened my Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I found this passage (p. 192): "Evil is not power. It is a mockery of strength, which erelong betrays its weakness and falls, never to rise."
I accepted this marvelous message, and the fear disappeared. I began to destroy all that was false in my way of looking at things and in my thinking. I resolved to see only God's perfect creation in my neighbor and to do unto others as I would have them do unto me. I had to struggle for a long time to replace sensitivity with humility, intransigence with understanding and goodness, rancor with confidence and affection. But the victory was complete, and discordant relationships gave way to harmony and justice.
