Man's only responsibility is to please God, to do His will. When we operate from this basic premise, we find that we have dominion over our human problems. And we find we gain the respect of our fellowmen, too.
In II Timothy we have a clear directive on this subject: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."II Tim. 2:15
But how are we to be "approved unto God," to please Him, so that we need "not to be ashamed"? We please God when we do His will, realizing that each of us is, in truth, the immortal child of God, divine Spirit, not only created by Him but sustained by Him, governed by Him. We need to recognize that the sinning, sick mortal that seems to be part of our being is not the reality, not the creation of God at all, but an illusion that has no power to control us.
