The promise for Christians—and indeed for all humanity—has always been a splendidly full one. "I am come," Christ Jesus told us all, "that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10
Yet Christian churches today, with enormous opportunities for usefulness, in common with most other religious and cultural institutions, are severely challenged. People—young people especially —are wondering not so often "What church?" as "Why church?"
There seems no reason why Christian Science churches should be exempt from facing and answering this challenge. They are marvelously equipped to do so. But not automatically. As certainly today as when Mrs. Eddy wrote this statement: "The time for thinkers has come."Science and Health, Pref., p. vii; The time has come, has stayed, and is requiring us to think.
