More than twenty-five years have passed since I expressed gratitude for Christian Science in our periodicals. During those years I have had many blessings, and many occasions to demonstrate the power of the healing Christ. Certain experiences stand out in my mind because of what I learned from them. One proved to me the fatherhood of the one Mind.
I was on a holiday in Maine. As I sat writing near the edge of a headland, the wind took away a paper I needed. When I went to retrieve it, I found myself on slippery shale rock. I quickly lay flat, but each time I tried to get back to the turf I slid further away from it until my feet hung over the edge of the cliff sixty feet above the beach below. The clubhouse where I was staying was a dozen rods away. Across the front ran a solid railing waist high. I called out several times, "Will someone please help me?"
When there was no answer, I stopped struggling, put my head down on my arms, and began to pray to my Father-Mother God. I declared His love was round about me, holding me in perpetual safety, and that this truth was a law to whatever human situation I might seem to be in. Peace filled my heart, and I forgot my predicament.
