A little over three years ago my husband lost his job, and this brought me a series of problems. Fear and worry took hold of me, and as a result I became very ill. I had two severe and painful bilious attacks. Nothing I ate agreed with me, and I was on a rigid diet. I also experienced great pain in the head and eyes and had symptoms of high blood pressure. In addition to all this, a lump appeared on my spine, and as I had lost a brother with a tumor on the larynx, I was terrified and thought that I had the same illness.
My friends advised me to see a doctor, but this frightened me even more. Then one of them, seeing my despair, asked me if I would like her to take me to see a Christian Scientist, and she explained to me a little about Science and its healing work. I accepted the invitation and went with her.
The practitioner was a lovely person. She encouraged me with her very first words, saying that God was with me and therefore I could not be sick, but needed to free myself from the fear and place myself completely in His hands. I left there in high spirits, for my heart was filled with hope and trust in God. She gave me some copies of The Herald of Christian Science, and I devoured them in my eagerness to find comfort and relief.
