My first experience with Christian Science was when, as a child of nine, I boarded in the home of Christian Scientists. I spent almost two years with them and grew fond of the youngest daughter in the family. As the years went by, I was able to see her when she made a yearly visit to the city where I lived.
Some years later, when my husband was overseas in the Army, I became ill with a severe digestive condition. In this time of need I wrote to my friend and asked her if Christian Science could help me. She wrote an encouraging letter advising me to call upon a Christian Science practitioner.
I did so and was greeted very lovingly. In the first five minutes I was in the practitioner's home a great sense of calm and peace came over me, which was really indescribable, and the pain and abdominal discomfort that had persisted for several months disappeared. This was really a holy experience. The practitioner talked with me of God and His great love for all of His children, and explained the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon. I ate normally the next day and had no more difficulty.
