It is difficult to select one particular healing out of so many for which to express my gratitude for Christian Science. I was protected from harm in a serious accident at a Navy air base while serving there during World War II. Our sons have both been delivered repeatedly from threatened harm—from yellow jacket stings, from virulent fevers, and during many crises associated with growing up. It was in a branch church that I met my wife.
Direction to solve mechanical problems with farm machinery, inspiration leading to creative solutions under the pressure of art studio deadlines, the right words and actions to preserve family harmony in moments of crisis—all have been supplied through a growing understanding of man's inseparable unity with God through the Christ as presented in the Scriptures and explained in Mrs. Eddy's writings.
Perhaps the greatest deliverance has been from a limited sense of my own capabilities. The habit of depreciating my abilities led very early to patterns of mediocre achievement. Although I was privileged to have the best education available, I had little confidence in my own capacities—physical or scholastic. I had been a pupil in Christian Science Sunday Schools as far back as I could remember. I had been taught that man reflects every quality of the one infinite Mind, God, but I didn't seem to apply what I learned.
