Begin with the One Mind

From the August 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We can align ourselves with Mind, God, for we really are related to Him as Mind's ideas or emanations. By seeing ourselves and all creation as living in Mind, instead of as looking up to Mind, we cannot see or believe in evil, lack, pain, mistake, accident. It is only when we think in egotistical, finite, mental grooves that we are victimized by these false conditions, for, as Christian Science teaches, man is entirely spiritual, the expression of the one perfect Mind, or God.

We read in Philippians, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." Phil. 2:5; It was Jesus' expression of divine Mind, of Mind's pure, deific spiritual power, that enabled him to know the unreality of mental and physical incapacity and to heal. Obedience to Paul's exhortation can enable us to express the Christ, the eternal truth of man's spiritual being, in individual healing and joyous living today.

The commonly held theory that man is a mortal being with an independent mind centered rather precariously within a brain and body, at times seeking direction from an unknowable Deity who is somehow separate from His creation, is exploded by the eternal fact of the oneness, or unity, of Mind and its idea. The age-old theological belief in a gap between an inscrutable omnipotence and its creation is permanently disposed of as false by the scientific explanation of man's inherent unity with God. Jesus' statement, so inflammatory to the theologians of his day, "I and my Father are one" John 10:30; makes clear that there is one Ego, one "I," one source of all true individuality.
