Mrs. Eddy's opening statement in the Preface of Science and Health(p. vii) "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" arrested my thought when I first read it. A teen-ager, I was earnestly seeking a better understanding of God, which I had not found in the activities of an orthodox church. Now, as the wife of a retired man, and the mother of five adult children, this powerful statement, and all the writings of Mrs. Eddy, are to me ever vital, fresh, beautiful.
My first healing, at age nineteen, was of a nervous breakdown, diagnosed by a competent physician. The verdict was that I would never be well and strong. Through the prayerful treatment, the love, and the encouragement of a Christian Science friend, I was brought out of that darkness into the light of understanding that I am indeed God's beloved child, free! My healing was complete. My gratitude to God is unbounded for the physical stamina and strength to live the tremendously active life it's been my privilege to have. It has been a constant challenge, and it has been joyous.
In our family there have been many physical healings through scientific prayer. Infected ears, chronic sore throats, polio, severe burns, hemorrhage, carbuncle, so-called childhood diseases—all were cured. From a somewhat limited income, we have come to have abundance through the realization that supply is spiritual, is from God, is unlimited.
