Testimonies of Healing

Two weeks after I arrived home from...

From the November 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Two weeks after I arrived home from the joyous experience of class instruction, my family and I were to go to the Middle West and help my parents harvest their wheat crop. But a letter came telling us to change our vacation plans if we wished, as my parents were sure there would be no crops to harvest. Their area had just had the worst hailstorm they had ever experienced. Hailstones the size of hardballs had broken windows, damaged roofs and siding, crops and yards. The letter said only one of my parents' fields had received some hail, others were untouched; but after being hailed out partially or completely for several years in a row, they expected the same again.

I had gained such strength and assurance from class that I called my parents and assured them we would be there to harvest their crops. Afterward, error tempted me to doubt my strong affirmation, so I immediately asked God to guide my thought to what I could hold to. I was directed to study in Matthew 13 Jesus' parable about the wheat and the tares (see w. 24-30). It became clear to me that I should think less in terms of matter, and more of divine ideas. I realized that, spiritually speaking, the seed, complete within itself, was governed, protected, and unfolded by God, and manifested as supply to meet our daily needs.

In Miscellaneous Writings Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 307): "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for to-morrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment." I declared this was true for all God's children, not just for my parents. To me the tares were a symbol for the hail, rust, wind, fear, superstition, and false education, and I knew they were powerless, lawless, nothingness, for they were not made by God and therefore had no source. Nor could they destroy what God creates and protects.
