Testimonies of Healing

My joy and gratitude for a new nature...

From the November 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My joy and gratitude for a new nature prompt me to share this Christian Science healing. The study of Christian Science has been an integral part of my life since my early twenties. I leaned on God constantly in raising a family. But today I am expressing gratitude for changes within myself.

In Miscellaneous Writings Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 15): "The new birth is not the work of a moment. It begins with moments, and goes on with years; moments of surrender to God, of childlike trust and joyful adoption of good; moments of self-abnegation, self-consecration, heaven-born hope, and spiritual love." This "new birth" has taken a dominant place in my experience over the last year. I found myself haunted by consistently ugly thoughts and memories of my past. I was responding to current situations with negative attitudes. Long-buried bitterness and resentment cropped up and distorted many close relationships.

My gratitude knows no bounds for the Christian Science practitioner who worked and reasoned faithfully with me for many months. The problem stemmed from beliefs of heredity, birth, and early environment. It was explained to me that "the human history needs to be revised, and the material record expunged" (Retrospection and Introspection by Mrs. Eddy, p. 22). The memories of friction, antagonism, and domination in my childhood needed to be corrected in the light of my present spiritual understanding. I earnestly worked to bring my concept of my human parents into line with the fatherhood and motherhood of God. I was able to discern the truth of this Bible verse in the book of Malachi (2:10): "Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us?" Slowly but surely I realized that there had never been a pattern of alienation in divine Mind and its ideas.
