More than eleven years ago I was seized with a condition in my feet and legs. There was swelling, and pain dogged me in everything I did. The physician designated these symptoms as the effect of a heart ailment. He said I would have to take medication for the rest of my life to strengthen my heart, and come for checkups every month. Upon my asking whether at least my legs would improve, he shook his head in silence. From then on, for ten years I took the medications three times a day. I spent every day of those ten years in fear of not seeing the next day.
Through a wonderful heavenly dispensation I learned of Christian Science, about which, as a sixty-seven-year-old, I had not the slightest idea. At the start I was encouraged to read a copy of The Herald of Christian Science and later to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and then to visit a Christian Science practitioner.
After a time, thanks to the patient encouragement I had received from the practitioner, I ventured to reduce the number of drops and tablets. After three months I was able to do without the medications completely. There was a major clearing out of all medical remedies I had taken daily, together with many others. And in spite of this, without really thinking about it, I went for the medical examination three more times at monthly intervals.
