I began to study Christian Science...

From the January 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I began to study Christian Science as a young mother, and was greatly encouraged by the healings that resulted. We lived in a small town where there were no Christian Scientists. Studying alone, mostly the chapter on Prayer in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I was healed of complications following childbirth. Our youngest child, who was unable to retain food and was fast losing weight, was also healed. We both became calm and healthy.

A few weeks later a neighbor who had frequently spoken against Christian Science and Mrs. Eddy came to visit. When she saw us both obviously well and happy, she was very surprised, and never again did she speak against Christian Science in my presence. During this time I rejoiced daily in a verse from Isaiah (40:31): "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

We moved to a town which had a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and a Reading Room, and within a few years my husband and I joined the branch church and The Mother Church and had class instruction. We became active in church work, our children attended Sunday School, and we all had educational opportunities and travel. We learned that what appears as right supply is the symbol of God's loving care, and we accepted gratefully the good that came to us.
