Reading Aloud

Fundamentals

From the March 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Reading aloud is an important activity for the Christian Scientist. The beautiful, inspiring words of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, read aloud, are part of every Sunday service, Wednesday testimony meeting, Sunday School exercise, and committee meeting.

Are we really appreciating this aspect of our church work? It is surprising that Christian Scientists will put so much dedicated work into choosing readings for a service or committee meeting, and sometimes no work at all into preparing to read them aloud.

When we first begin to think about reading aloud, we might sum up our basic preparation in three words: understand, respond, communicate.
