Handling Evil Suggestions

From the March 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In order to keep our thought clear so we may serve God better, we need to guard our mental realm from evil suggestions, which tend toward disease or upset. These aggressive suggestions—of fear, pain, hatred, sensuality—appear to us for handling, or eradicating.

Christian Science explains that only thoughts coming from divine Mind have reality, and these govern us harmoniously, producing health and well-being. As we become acquainted with this normal, natural, God-governed status, we will be more alert to detect the suggestions of evil, or mortal mind, and recognize they are unreal because they are not from God.

When a suggestion of sickness or conflict presents itself, we can do one of two things. We can accept it and submit to its consequences, or, discerning that it is only a suggestion tempting us to believe in a power other than the one supreme power, God, we can nullify it at once. We do this by turning to God and acknowledging His allness and care for us and by denying the supposed reality and power of evil.
