Much time, effort, and love are usually put into the preparatory work for a Christian Science lecture. But while our efforts toward planning for the lecture are necessary and proper, we can do still more. We can ensure that our lecture event is fresh, inspiring, uplifting, and that it really meets the needs of our community. How? By spiritualizing our concept of the upcoming lecture.
This spiritualization of thought consists of becoming conscious of the ideas that are the true substance behind the lecture activity. It is accomplished through individual prayer. In fact, an essential ingredient of a successful lecture is always prayer. Mrs. Eddy counsels: "Watch and pray that God directs your meetings and your lives, and your Leader will then be sure that they are blessed in their results." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 143;
A Christian Science lecture should be a healing activity, expressing the church's love for the community—and it will be if it is the inspired result of much prayer and of careful study of the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy.
