I shall never cease being grateful for my introduction to Christian Science. This took place when I was a girl of twelve living in a small midwestern town. My mother had just passed on, and I felt needs that were not being answered in the Protestant church I had always attended.
One Sunday morning I set out to visit a very dear aunt and was sauntering along Main Street when a blackboard resting on an easel caught my eye. I stopped and read the words: "Christian Science Society—Lesson-Sermon subject: Love." The hours of the service were also posted, and I noticed I was just in time for Sunday School.
I feel at that moment God took me by the hand and led me in. I found myself among strangers, but there was a warm and loving welcome. My need, at that moment, really was for love. What great love that little group expressed, and what wonderful outreach they had to the community to have attracted me!
