Some years ago I began to have trouble seeing properly. One eye functioned very well seeing things close up, and the other in seeing objects far away. I remember closing one eye to thread a needle, and closing the other eye to see a street sign.
The first thing I remember thinking about this deficiency was that it was a serious one. A lifelong student of Christian Science, I had never had a difficult physical challenge. There had been many healings, but they had been quick. I also knew that many troubles had been eliminated entirely from my experience through protection afforded by daily study of Christian Science. But now something big loomed. Or so it seemed to me at the time. Would I be able to meet this challenge and be healed?
The thought came to me that God knew nothing of "serious" or "easy" problems—in fact, He knew of no difficulties at all. After that I didn't think of this as anything but a glorious opportunity to learn more of God and man, and the nature of true seeing.
