The gentling of the universe

From the July 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Life that is divine is limitless and unrestricted and is forever unfolding itself. Man is the infinite expression of this Life, forever unlimited and free. As mankind recognize these facts, they will be increasingly impelled to throw off anything that tyrannizes or hinders progress out of the chaos and barbarism of matter. Those who discern spiritual being are engaged in a revolution to bring out on earth the design of the spiritual universe that was and always will be perfect.

We may be wide-eyed about the revolutions already taking place—ones that have remade the map of the world, others that redefine daily the roles individuals fill, religious ones changing the very way people worship God. But mankind have hardly begun to see the changes that will have to come to make earth coincide with spiritual reality; to make us truly civilized; to demonstrate fully Christ Jesus' vision: "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." Matt. 6:10;

One of Job's glimpses of divine reality led him to speak of primeval harmony: "When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy." Job 38:7; And Isaiah prophesies millennial glory: "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them." Isa. 11:6; Revolutionary changes, challenging the very existence and reality of matter, must come to reinstate primeval harmony and fulfill millennial prophecy.
