The Christian Science Monitor— spreading Science undivided

From the July 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian Science Monitor has been widely acknowledged as a dependable, informative, constructive, fair-minded newspaper. It is all of these. But what many people do not see is that the Monitor could never be the well-respected newspaper it is if it were not for its deeply spiritual mission.

In its first issue, the Monitor published on the editorial page a letter to its founder, Mary Baker Eddy, from Frank Bell. The letter read as follows:

Dear Leader—As a newspaper man I thank you for The Christian Science Monitor in prospect, and I feel sure that such will be the sentiment of hundreds of newspaper workers all over the land when The Monitor in fact shall have demonstrated the feasibility of clean journalism.
