When a newspaper editor questioned Mrs. Eddy about what was nearest and dearest to her heart, she answered: "To your courtesy and to your question permit me to say that, insomuch as I know myself, what is 'nearest and dearest' to my heart is an honest man or woman— one who steadfastly and actively strives for perfection, one who leavens the loaf of life with justice, mercy, truth, and love." She ended her reply, "The real man was, is, and ever shall be the divine ideal, that is, God's image and likeness; and Christian Science reveals the divine Principle, the example, the rule, and the demonstration of this idealism." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, pp. 271-272; All of Mrs. Eddy's writings are rooted in Truth.
The Founder of Christian Science discovered, through her consecrated study of Scripture, that the spiritual understanding of God and of the real man is what empowered Christ Jesus in his works and ministry. Man, reflecting God, cannot be separated from Him or from the Christ, Truth, as it was originally presented to the world by Jesus. Loving Mrs. Eddy as our Leader, understanding her in this role, helps lift us toward perfect being. Understanding her as Discoverer, Founder, author, and Leader is an essential key to unlocking the treasure: the proof that there is a higher concept of man to be recognized today. Every Christian Science healing, every demonstration of the Christ-power, has as its motive and purpose the proof that man, in the likeness of God, Spirit, is spiritual, not mortal or material. This high ideal guides, motivates, inspires, and protects all striving to demonstrate the truth.
Can't we expand our view to see flawless man?
