Silent power

From the March 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When we have opportunities to comfort or encourage others, we may readily share passages from the Bible or Mrs. Eddy's writings—perhaps even give an explanation of Christian Science suitable to the moment. But sometimes the occasion demands less of the spoken word and more of the patient lovingkindness that comes from keeping thought and life in accord with the divine Mind that is God.

The power of silent prayer, together with the strong influence of a good example and loving actions, motivates others to respond in kind. "Works, more than words, should characterize Christian Scientists,"Miscellaneous Writings, p. 126. Mrs. Eddy tells us.

Christ Jesus attracted and healed the multitudes by simply living the Christ, the true idea of God he manifested so fully. When preaching, he was concise; when healing, he usually spoke but briefly. It was not his words that healed so much as the silent power of the Christ working through his declarations with strong, direct healing impact.
