Wake-up call

From the July 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Good morning, self!
Greet your creator (He's pleased with you, you know).
Let this waking second beckon you;
drop night's cocoon and feel the freeing dawn-flight
that's yours.

Now, how about some mental calisthenics?
Stretch way upward to reach the peaks
(of gleaming goodness,
God's ever-present knowledge
of His very own creation).

Next, enjoy some deep knee bending
(humbling thought
to find the meekness of good
at the feet of Christly
understanding).

And don't forget this day's running
("with patience
the race that is set before [you]").

Have you fully stretched and reached, and let this
precious day
be embraced in Life?
Have you truly touchedyourtoes with the quietness that knows
God alone directs this day's doings?

And is your running (not jostled jogging,
but well-spaced, rhythmic,
moving steps!)
actually leading you to glorified identity:
the true body building, emergence into
light of your real, sturdy structure—
Spirit's image
