Consider Peter

From the July 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Consider Peter.
That fisherman,
Used to rough waves, rough men.
Consider how he left his nets
To follow the gentle Jesus.
Do you suppose he ever looked back,
Wondering why he had left his security
To go into the villages following a man
People called liar, blasphemer, and worse?

Consider Peter.
He denied the Christ three times.
(Maybe more often in his heart.)
Denied the Christ!
Even after seeing the miracles,
Even after walking the waves,
He denied the Christ.

Consider Peter.
When Jesus experienced resurrection,
Peter shared in this glorious event.
He also rose—to a degree.
He rose to a higher understanding
Of the Christ he had been following.

Then how Peter healed!

Consider Peter.
Then know that we too,
Although impetuous at times,
Denying and doubtful at times,
Can also share in the resurrection.
Can rise higher and higher
In our understanding of the Christ.

Like Peter, we can heal.
