The demand "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it" Gen. 1:28. has never lost its urgency. Mrs. Eddy recognizes this divine requirement, which God has placed on each of us, throughout her writings. The last hundred pages of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, are entitled "Fruitage." The chapter is filled with examples of lives restored to usefulness by being healed and regenerated through a reading of this book. Mrs. Eddy expected such demonstrations of spiritual power to be intrinsic in the lives of Christian Scientists, for she writes: "Our church is built on the divine Principle, Love. We can unite with this church only as we are new-born of Spirit, as we reach the Life which is Truth and the Truth which is Life by bringing forth the fruits of Love,— casting out error and healing the sick." Science and Health, p. 35.
Few individuals have even begun to approximate the measure of fulfillment achieved by Christ Jesus. An imperative step in individual salvation is to rouse ourselves to a more vigorous demonstration of spiritual power. But whether we are fulfilling the Master's demands cannot be judged by worldly standards of productivity and satisfaction.
God is Mind, the divine Principle, Love, totally good, the only creator, infinite and All. Creation is Mind's doing, and man reflects Mind's creative power. It becomes apparent, then, that the manifestation of Mind's ideas—rather than a striving for material or merely human achievement—is what truly replenishes and subdues the earth.
