I was introduced to Christian Science by a devoted student of this religion when it seemed there was no place to go: there were problems in my marriage, and my infant son was quite ill. Yet here was this lovely person telling me that God loved me—loved everyone, including what appeared to be a sick child. I had tried everything else; so I thought, Christian Science cannot hurt and just maybe it will help. Needless to say, it did.
Through the study and prayer of another Christian Scientist I'd called on for help, my health improved and so did my son's. Also, eventually my husband and I were able to part amicably.
Two years later my son and I felt led to move to Washington, District of Columbia, where I didn't know anyone. When we got there, the first thing that had to be overcome was a housing problem. There seemed to be no decent place for a black woman with a small child to live. But I knew that I could not be defeated as long as I was on the side of God, good. Within a few days a perfect living situation unfolded for us. A wonderful lady even volunteered to look after my son while I worked.
