Finding time to pray

From the April 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When we consider the threats to our world, it's plain that mankind's best efforts haven't been equal to dealing with them successfully. Something greater than human skill is needed: the power of God. We learn from the Bible that people demonstrate God's power in proportion to their obedience to His laws. These laws were summarized by Christ Jesus as two related demands: to love God with all our heart and soul and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.See Matt. 22:37-40.

The Christian Science textbooks, the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's book Science and Health, reveal God as divine Mind, Life, Truth, Love, Spirit, Soul, Principle, and man as His reflection, or expression. As we study these books, our spiritual understanding grows, and we want to do all we can to promote love for God and man at home and throughout the world.

Prayer, supported by spiritual understanding, will do more than anything else to advance this love and thereby to resolve individual and world problems. This being true, we have an even stronger reason for making sure that nothing keeps us from studying and praying. As we realize that the busyness that crowds out turning our thoughts to God is a form of evil, or error, we'll take strong measures to thwart it.
