Healing: what is it we are trying to do?

From the October 1989 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Everyone wants healing. That's just natural. There is probably no one on earth who doesn't deeply desire the resolution of problems of one sort or another. We all want things to be set right. In fact, at this period when the challenges mankind faces individually and collectively are so numerous and acute, perhaps healing becomes the most significant goal we can have.

To the Christian Scientist, healing is inseparable from following the Master, Christ Jesus, who healed sickness, sin, lack, tempest, even overcame death, through the power of God. He stated forthrightly that those who believed on him would be able to do the same. And Christian Science, or the Science of Christ, teaches the spiritual laws that result in healing of discords through enlightened faith in God—through the understanding of His goodness and power and of the perfect harmony of His spiritual kingdom, including man in His image.

This issue of the Journal, as well as all its issues and those of other weekly, monthly, and quarterly religious publications of the Church of Christ, Scientist, includes letters telling of healings. These have resulted from people's learning more about God's all-goodness and man's perfection and health as God's own spiritual likeness.
