Poems

Sanctuary

From the October 1989 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Sometimes the pace of life
can seem to swirl us headlong
into a whirlpool of conflicting
feelings. The clangor, stress,
confusion, that beset us may
relentlessly suggest
that we are separated from
the unfailing source of peace.
Yet deep within our inmost thoughts
there is a refuge from the sharp
vicissitudes of human life.
A consciousness of Soul, wherein
the still serenity of God's presence
is a benediction to our troubled sense.
Here Mind's heaven-born impartations
reveal themselves perceptibly
to the listening thought,
quelling all our fretful fears
with consolation of the gentling Christ.
