I visited a Christian Science Sunday School in...

From the October 1989 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I visited a Christian Science Sunday School in my early teens, but my parents did not want me to remain as a regular pupil. However, while I was there I heard "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and this remained in memory. Frequently, at a difficult moment, I would recall the opening words of the statement, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter," and I would feel both comforted and strengthened. (The sentence following this one reads: "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all.")

Twenty-two years later I attended a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and my children asked to accompany me. I felt I had come home at last. Soon people noticed a change in me and asked, "What is it you've found? You seemed to be searching; now it's obvious you've found something. What is it?" Of course I replied, "I've found Christian Science."

One day soon after I'd begun to attend a branch church, two of my three children showed evidence of a contagious disease. The Christian Science practitioner I called for help through prayer asked me to obey the state law and report the condition to the health officer, which I did.
