Never had I been so aware of God's ever-presence until I began publishing a small weekly newspaper. My husband, who had started the paper, passed on, and an employee and her daughter tried to carry on. There were problems, however, and I was urged to run the paper myself. I felt completely inadequate since I had no training for the work whatsoever, but it became obvious that a change had to be made. So I took over.
I had been brought up in Christian Science, and I prayed. I knew that, as Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy states (p. 519), "nothing can be novel to eternal Mind, the author of all things, who from all eternity knoweth His own ideas."
A woman I did not know, but who was a Christian Scientist, offered to help me for a week in whatever way she could. This valuable worker got right to the job at hand. That first week the paper was printed and delivered. My new friend and I hugged each other with delight. But we then realized we had to do it all over again the next week! (This friend ended up staying for two years.)
