LIFTING GRIEF

Gapless good

Nothing can cut you off from Love, nor interrupt the good Love has for you.

From the May 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There Are No Gaps in God's goodness! He is infinite, universal Love (no gap there); and His love for each of His children is just as constant and consistent as He is. The Bible is full of not only promises but proofs of just how unstoppable God's love for all of us is!

Knowing this is a big help when we're faced with loss of some kind—when God's goodness seems most distant. But even in our darkest hour, His love is closer than the air we breathe. Through prayer we can genuinely feel it comforting, strengthening, lifting us up. And when we hold tightly to the eternal spiritual fact of the oneness, the inseparability, of God and man, of God and His likeness, we can prove the continuity of His goodness in our life. Nothing can cut you off from Love, nor interrupt the good Love has for you. This I've learned.

God's uninterruptible love—that's one of the first things I learned in Sunday School as a child, and I've been proving it through all the changes in my life. Even at the time of my husband's untimely passing, I was alive to God's comforting, strengthening, protecting, and providing, which He kept showing me every day in tangible ways. Little ways, big ways—none slid by unnoticed. I was grateful for them all. With each, I was confident that God was doing the same for my dear husband, too. As the months went by, I was doing a lot of growing, and knew he was growing as well.
